Onsite, Over-the-Phone, Video Remote Medical Interpretation Services

Conversations between patient and physician are confidential and critical to the patient’s health. Our certified interpreters to bridge the language gap between your medical staff and your patients. Utilizing a medical interpreter promotes patient communication and safety, breaking down language barriers and reducing the risks associated with misdiagnosis, medication error, or any other potential malpractice situation. For medical facilities, it is also mandated by Title VI (Prohibition Against National Origin Discrimination Affecting Limited English Speakers) of the Civil Rights Act, which is further supported by the ACA Section 1557 (Ensuring Meaningful Access for Individuals with Limited English Proficiency).

Although onsite interpreting has classically been the preferred way for receiving interpretation services, both for the provider as well as the patient, over-the-phone interpreting has been and continues to be a great alternative to onsite interpreting in geographically isolated places where larger immigrant populations reside. OPI (Over-the-Phone) interpreting is also utilized successfully for those patients that speak more rare languages that aren’t supported by a local demand for interpreters of that language.

Our VRI system Kirii™ delivers a virtual interpreter instantly at the push of a button by cellphone, tablet, ipad, or computer. As opposed to having to be tethered to a landline phone, with Kirii™ you can travel freely around the clinic rooms, travel to different destinations in the facility, without having to hang up with the interpreter. The interpreter will be able to see the provider and patient, and continue the conversation and medical care without interruption. This also saves time and money that onsite interpreting may incur by anywhere between 35%-70%. It is an advantage over OPI  in that body language and facial expressions can be detected by the interpreter to render the most faithful translation of the message to the other party.

Quality Control

Our OPI and VRI  services are quality controlled and performed by certified, professional interpreters that have at least 5 years of experience in medical interpreting. We also have a rigorous 60 hour certification process. There are another 300 hours of courses continued training that we have all medical interpreters take periodically. Calls are monitored periodically and interpreters are evaluated and critiqued during quarterly reviews to maintain a high level of interpretation quality.
